Is It Ok To Lie To Pollsters?

I just had a kid from the Obama campaign knock on my door and ask me If I am [insert my name], and if I had voted early. He already knew this because he got my name from the rolls and was already identified as someone who had voted early.
So I told him yes, and he asked if I would mind answering a few questions, I said sure, I told him how I voted for the local elections, on question 2 ( florida’s version of California prop 8) and then I lied and told him I voted for Obama, I hope everyone who voted for McCain does the same thing.
I voted for third party candidates, democrats, for every other office, and I voted like a true social liberal on all such issues on the ballot.
I only lied about my vote for Obama, I think Obama is a huckster. So I didn’t mind lying to him.
This happened just ten minutes ago, I swear it’s true,

Why lie about it? I never lie about my beliefs regardless of who confronts me about them, and I get confronted a lot by Christians about being an atheist, I never back down about it even though I believe their entire faith is based on lies. I don’t know why you would feel differently, or how you could actually feel good about lying about what you truly believe. Actually, you probably don’t or you wouldn’t be asking this question.
Tell the truth next time, nobody is going to take you away if you don’t vote the way they expect you to.

well that depends on your values/integrity,and how you feel about lying. if it doesn’t bother you to tell lies-then who cares if you lie to some insignificant pollster. but if you have strong feelings about lying ,strong sense of integrity-then lying to a pollster is probably not worth the inner turmoil

I hope you are one of millions. Obama scares me when I think he would have the unbridled support of a democratically controlled congress if elected. I am convinced that the long term implications of his presidency would be disastrous for the American way of life.

I believe the pollsters skew the results to come out how they want anyway, look at the last couple of elections the liberal biased polls always favor the Democrat and they always lose. Very funny though.

I don’t see why you can’t lie about your vote, since he’s lied about everything else. Tit for tat, don’t you think? Or would that be quid pro quo. (Stupid correspondence course!)
I wonder how many other people were less than honest about their ballots… D:

What you did isn’t illegal. It’s not going to matter though. Pollsters always assume that some respondents are lying within a range of 1 to 3 percent.

If it makes you feel better.
I’m sorry you voted for 3rd party candidates because that takes votes away from the mainstream candidates. You should have stayed home.

I’ve been polled before, and I always tell them Obama. It’s called the Bradley effect. It’s causing a 10-15% bump in the polls for Obama.

Of course, since pollsters use manipulative questions to get the desired outcome.

You can lie to a pollster under the Freedom of Speech, just don’t lie under oath like Bill Clinton.

Well, I don’t blame you for lying.
I would be ashamed to admit that I voted for McCain too.

I lie to them all the time. If they’re gonna waste my time and bother me I’m gonna return the favor.

No. I feel any lie is wrong. — I get enough facts mixed up in my life I don’t need to add to my lack of veracity. — smiles
