Progressives?

Why do Liberal Democrats call themselves Progressives? It is truly a misnomer. They seem to very oppressive, preventing free speech, gun confiscation, voter disenfranchisement, Florida, Michigan and all the absentees (many military members who would vote for the other side) not to mention the super delegates who really determine who the candidate will be!
If they would be honest and call themselves Social Democrats or even Socialist like they do in Europe, which is what they really, are people might for once believe them.
The last two Progressives of note were Gray Davis and Spitzer.

progressive sounds like a disease or virus
I guess a lot of libs changed terms because *lib* was given a bad rap?

I agree they should call it what it is. But the reason is that too many people vote party lines (both Rep and Dem). It doesn’t matter who they have running. They count on these votes.

They can’t come out and call themselves liberals because they wouldn’t win anything. Progressives is a way to get the votes of ignorant people. Can you imagine how funny it would sound if we called ourselves something different? Like puppies. News headlines: “Puppies Kill S-Chip Bill expansion and hate Poor People”

Progressive means for progress, conservative means slowing down progress, reactionary means going back to an earlier time.
They are just labels. Simplified ways of viewing complex concepts. Generalizations are generally inaccurate.

You misunderstand its usage. When they say progressive, they are using it in the context that they are progressing towards communism. Hope that clears it up for you.
