Looking at what’s going on in this election, it seems like everyone, the candidates, media, and other politicians are focused on four states: Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Michigan. This is only because people in those states tend to swing more in elections than others but that’s not fair. I’m a swing voter too but I live in a blue state so it doesn’t matter if I vote for McCain or not. I feel like my vote doesn’t count as much as some vote in Ohio. I feel like those republicans in blue states and those democrats in red states should get more of a voice than those people in Ohio. I’m so damn sick of hearing of how people in Ohio feel about the issues. What about everyone else?

Hey, I just wrote this essay to apply to Georgetown University. Hopefully, you find it interesting but just a few questions. Like is it too out there and theoretical (makes sense when you read it)?
I was told to do this essay on a topic of your choice:
The months leading up to the 2008 presidential election were marked by an expectedly heightened interest in politics at my high school. Students divided themselves as democrats and republicans. Almost as historic as this election was to the nation, was a startling conclusion that I drew from it. I noticed with staggering uniformity that the students’ political parties were shared with their parents. I too was equally victim of this moral hijacking. Similarly, I found, in an even more disquieting trend, that all students shared a common religion with their families. While this may come as obvious, it has unsettling implications about the emergence of one’s character and overall personality.
Parents have this supreme influence over children’s political and religious orientations. The environment overall in which we all develop must have an omnipotent sway over our personality and moral fiber. Simply, why am I a devout Orlando Magic basketball fan, it is because I lived for over ten years in Orlando. I have a desire to be successful in the business world because I have experienced and detest economic mediocrity. I have since been plagued with the question, how much of me, actually is me? It’s something you cannot escape.
Inherent in the theory that environment controls your personality is the fundamental logic of cause and effect. I lived in the Florida sunshine for ten years; as a result, I dislike the New England cold. Even more pervading, all daily monotony is founded in this controlling principle of cause and effect. I am thirsty and therefore I drink, I aspire to attend Georgetown University therefore I am writing this essay. In biology, I have learned that many cellular mechanisms are regulated by surpluses of a particular compound and have a finite relationship between this cause and its affect on cellular metabolism. I see the conditions of society and our families to have a similar cause and effect on our development.
While the bondage of our environment is seemingly unbreakable in its influence on personality and even biological activity, one question pervades this cloud of hopelessness. In the absolute dawn of time, how could that original, catalytic activity have occurred without have its source rooted yet another cause? Even though the 2008 election caused and stimulated a helpless outlook my life, it nonetheless gave me a greater appreciation for life itself.

To where does a liberal-minded college dropout move?
I am an an intensely creative, impressively brilliant individual who just dropped out of college. I feel so critical of an education system that costs so much, and yet, despite my 4.0 GPA from 74 credits, despite the schools’ wealth, I can’t get a scholarship. I don’t have money, and I feel like the academic community (which use to fuel me) is sucking the motivation out of my life. The classes are becoming repetative, and with my already intellectual disposition and impressive IQ, I could get more out of reading and teaching myself. I’m already an autodidactic when it comes to piano, guitar, accordian, performing, drawing, painting . . .
I want to move to a liberal community. Spiritual, ecological, or hippie communes seem interesting . . . but maybe a little too extreme for me. I’m looking for a place that endorses pot-smoking/consumption, support the GLBT community, identified by irreligion, atheism, or alternative spirituality (probably the latter), is a melting pot of the arts, especially theatre, is politically liberal and politically ACTIVE, is relatively safe, and has a nice climate (lol, whatever that might for you).
I want to find a place that resembles hippie nooks of New York or San Fransisco in the 1960s, though those are quite large, but full of opportunity if I found the right place. Somewhere where people are friendly, and independent, and where it isn’t difficult to meet like-minded people.
Right now I live in Central Florida: Republican, Conservative, Christian, Anti-Gay, Anti-Pot, Enormous Population, Expensive, Expensive, Expensive. My school (UCF) is now the largest school in FL. I’m having trouble meeting people. I am frustrated and . . . well.
Let me know what you think?
(Thanks, guys ;D)

BOCA RATON, FLA. — Hillary Clinton warned the Democratic Party and Florida voters that not counting their Jan. 29 primary votes would be a repeat of what happened after the 2000 presidential election.
“We believe the popular vote is the truest expression of your will. We believe it today just as we did back in 2000 when right here in Florida, you learned the hard way what happens when your votes aren’t counted and the candidate with the fewer votes is declared the winner,” Clinton said.
“The lesson of 2000 here in Florida is crystal clear: if any votes aren’t counted, the will of the people isn’t realized and our democracy is diminished.”

A I understand it, the electorial colllege was created at a time in the United States, when the country was younger, and states were harder to reach, because of lack of media, ( unlike today). It makes no difference which candidate Democrat or Republican, even if they have the popular vote ( more votes than the other candidate) the electorial college can and have changed the results of the elections! In 2000,, in the state of Florida, election votes in many parts of the state were not counted or discounted. and that election was resolved by the candidate bush’s governor brother Jeb. amd his state’s Sup[reme court! I find that hysterically funny, and a gross miscarriage of justice. But many other times the electorial college decided the election by their votes, and negating popular votes. Any comments about this?
