Why Is Obama Getting More Military Support Than Mccain?
“The Center for Responsive Politics reports that Barack Obama is getting six times as much support from American military personnel serving overseas than John McCain. Interestingly, even Ron Paul, who was staunchly opposed to the Iraq war, has gotten 4 1/2 times the contributions from overseas soldiers than McCain has.
“That’s shocking. The academic debate is between some who say that junior enlisted ranks lean slightly Republican and some who say it’s about equal, but no one would point to six-to-one” in Democrats’ favor, said Aaron Belkin, a professor of political science at the University of California who studies the military. “That represents a tremendous shift from 2000, when the military vote almost certainly was decisive in Florida and elsewhere, and leaned heavily towards the Republicans.”
McCain seems to be having a difficult time winning the support of the military despite his own history as a Navy pilot and former POW. The group Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans for America, for example, gave McCain a rating of D for his support of veteran’s issues while giving Obama a rating of B+. Disabled American Veterans say McCain voted with their position 11 times and against them 16 times in recent sessions, while Obama voted with them 17 times and only once against them.”http://www.michiganmessenger.com/2328/ob…
Because no one truly likes to fight. Obama is making promises of ending the war, and that’s what I think they honestly want. They just want to be with their families and friends again.
Old men start wars, young men go out and fight in them. Kind of answers the question, if you think of age-ism as a possible reason. They relate to Obama more. Nothing to do with him personally or his policies. It’s his age.
And while Obama talks of bringing the war in Iraq to an end, he is also talking about taking troops into Afghanistan instead. So…it’s not really going to be over for many in the military for some time. It will merely change location.
Since you asked the same question twice I’ll answer it twice:
this is funny-a few soldiers support Obama with donations and suddenly Democrats now like the military.
This after years of cutting military spending, underming the morale of these same soldiers in Iraq and many of them calling American soldiers murderers. After people like Harry Reid telling them the US was “defeated” in Iraq. In the end most of the military will vote for McCain and then Democrats can get back to worrying about the rights of terrorists and calling our soldiers Nazis again
If you’ll notice, the numbers came from people donating $200 or more to a political campaign. I would imagine that the vast majority of contributors where officers. The enlisted (blue collar) can’t afford that kind of donation. Those are the ones McCain would get better numbers from If they took a poll of military folks, I bet you’d find that McCain would get more support.
The theory I like is that the soldiers who are most willing to donate are the ones who want to go home. You can’t protest in the army without severe repercussions, so donating to the candidate that plans to withdraw the most troops is a form of silent protest.
McCain’s a liar. He said he’d go to the gates of hell to capture Osama bin Laden. But for what, 9/11? The FBI doesn’t want Bin Laden for the attacks on 9/11. They don’t have enough evidence. Take a look at his wanted poster. 9/11 is not mentioned.
If Bin Laden isn’t responsible for 9/11, then who is?
Your explanation is provably the best answer, Disabled American Veterans say McCain voted with their position 11 times and against them 16 times in recent sessions, while Obama voted with them 17 times and only once against them. So there you have it.
Because the ratings for the war e very low. No one wants the US in Iraq and Obama wants to make a plan to get the US out of Iraq while McCain is another Bush who only cares about money oil and power.
Simple. Being shot at doesn’t qualify you to be president.
Obama has realistic goals and ambitions McCain is a senile old man who is out of touch with the world.
The troops recognize this more than anyone.
Your source, The Michigan Messenger is a far left independently published propaganda spouting mullet wrapper that publishes liberal bullsh*t. Don’t believe a word of it.
Because, in general there are more blacks in the Military and they vote for him on skin-color issues alone, no matter the politics..
I think soldiers will vote for McCain. They can relate to him and can see that he really understands what they’re going through.
on the senate floor obama did much more to improve veteran’s lives while mccain did less.
War is horrible and no one knows that better than those fighting it.
Because they understand what the REAL DEAL is concerning the military.
’cause Obama is cooler.
OBAMA RULES!
Do u have a link from a reputable site?
Just consider your source—actually McCain gets far more support from our armed-forces.
Because they know Obama will bring them home!
It is because McCain did not support giving Veterans more benefits, while Obama supported the new Veterans bill. McCain is more worried about keeping military retention than about providing for those who volunteer to serve our country!
For those saying it isn’t true, in the past month, Obama raised over 60k, Ron Paul over 40k and McCain somewhere around 12k I believe. The military is putting their money where there vote is, and to say otherwise is an outright lie.
